In 1974 won Newton-John, an Australian pop Albums of Young Jeezy singer, the ”Best Female Country VocalPerformance” and the Country Music Association’s most coveted award for women, ”FemaleVocalist of the Year.” That same year, a group of artists, troubled by this development, the short-lived union of the country entertainer. The debate raged in 1975, and reached its peakthis year, Country Music Association Awards when reigning Entertainer of the Year CharlieRich (who himself had a series of crossover hits), presented the award to his successor, JohnDenver with his Sad Songs. As he read Denver name, Rich set fire to the envelope with a lighter. The action wastaken as a protest against the increasing pop style in Top country songs music.
